DXA Quality Assurance

  • Writing and maintaining operations manuals and procedures
  • Training and certification of DXA operators/technologists
  • Monitoring scanner maintenance, software upgrades, and repair
  • Review of quality control phantom data to determine longitudinal scanner performance
  • Organizing and conducting phantom cross calibration scans
  • Centralized scan review of problem/flagged, "excessive" bone loss and random samples of participant scans
  • Creation of study-wide DXA database using SAS
  • Error source analysis and recommendations for resolution
  • Development of quality control reports to study investigators

The DXA Research Group provides quality assurance services for multi-site research studies involving dual energy x-ray absorptiometry scans of the hip, spine, wrist, and whole body using Hologic and Lunar technology.

MRI Quality Assurance

  • Developing MR image acquisition protocols
  • Preparation and blinding of images for readings
  • Reviewing images for quality assurance
  • Receiving and storing electronic reading data

The Coordinating Center MRI QA group has been involved in many of the largest epidemiological studies of osteoarthritis that have been performed using MRI in the US.
